
Earlier this month, two Greenbrier East High School graduates earned medical degrees from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, located in Lewisburg.
Summer McElwain, D.O., and Kassey Wagner, D.O., both graduated from WVSOM with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree on May 1.
While at WVSOM, Dr. McElwain received the RAMS Head Award. She was a graduate teaching assistant in Osteopathic Principles and Practice and a member of the student chapter of the American Academy of Osteopathy and the student chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians.

McElwain earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Concord University in Athens, WV, in 2021. She is a 2018 graduate of Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg. McElwain is the daughter of William and Barbara McElwain of Lewisburg. She plans to enter a pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital of Richmond in Richmond, VA.
While at WVSOM, Dr. Wagner participated in the Rural Health Initiative. Wagner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV, and a Master of Arts degree in biomedical science from West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV. She is a graduate of Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg.
Wagner is the daughter of Travis and Robin Wagner of White Sulphur Springs. She plans to enter an emergency medicine residency at Memorial Health System in Marietta, Ohio.
