Pastor Mary Catherine Johnson Hopkins

Alderson-Pastor Mary Catherine Johnson Hopkins, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Apr. 1, 2015, at the Peyton Hospice House, Fairlea, following a short illness.

Born Aug. 18, 1934, in Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late Brown and Mable Dunsmore Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Everett Hopkins, Sr.; an infant son, Carl Emmanuel Hopkins; daughter, Janet Lee Hopkins; two sisters, Eva May Douglas’ and Virginia Boone; and three brothers, William Spotts, Sam Spotts, and John Henry Spotts.

Pastor Hopkins attended Bolling High School in Lewisburg. Following high school, she married and became a homemaker, taking care of her children. She was the Pastor of the Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Alderson. Pastor Hopkins loved going to church, gardening, and especially loved flowers.

Survivors include: four sons, John E. Hopkins, Jr. and wife Margaret of Lawton, OK, Bill Hopkiu and wife Mary Beth of Alderson, Jerry Hopkins and wife Melissa of Alderson, and Timothy Hopkins and fiancee Betty Brookman of Alderson; sister, Rosa Houston of Columbus, OH; brother, Charles Johnson and wife Doris of Columbus, OH; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren expected in the fall of 2015; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Apr. 7, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, where the Rev. Lawrence Cantrell officiated. Entombment followed in the Rosewood Cemetery Mausoleum, Lewisburg.

Friends called before the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers were: Scott Weikle, Dakota Jones, Bryan Carter, David Carter, Alex Alvarez, Sam Walker, and Herbie Burdette.
