Three students from New River Community and Technical College have been named to the All-West Virginia Academic Team in a competition sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, two-year college presidents and the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education.
The 2016 honorees were Madison Frame of Birch River, Mary Pomeroy of Nettie, Alexandria Battaile of Alderson and Joy Vance of Frankford.
Academic Team members from throughout the state were honored at the ceremony in the Governor’s reception room at the State Capitol on Apr. 27. They were presented plaques and medallions by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin; Sarah Tucker, chancellor of the WV Community and Technical College System; and Bob Brown, vice chair of the WV Council for Community and Technical College Education. Governor Tomblin was the guest speaker.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2.5 million members. It serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming.
