Six Greenbrier County students recently earned first place honors at the West Virginia Destination Imagination Tournament, which was held in Fairmont on Apr. 23. The event is an academic competition with an emphasis on scientific research and creative problem solving. Each school year, the Destination Imagination Team Challenge offers seven new Team Challenges each year: Engineering, Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Service Learning (Project Outreach) and Early Learning Challenge (Rising Stars!).
Participating students worked for several months as a collaborative team to solve an open ended scientific challenge with a live, performance-based challenge solution. Team leader, Jason Johans, said, “Students use the creative process to turn their ideas into reality and learn invaluable critical thinking, team building and project management skills through the process. It’s a great experience for our kids.”
