Marsha Jo Brinley

Devine, TX-Marsha Jo Brinley, 66, a longtime resident of Devine, died peacefully with family by her side, from a long and valiant battle with cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014.

She was born Sept. 24, 1947, in Chincoteague, VA, a daughter of Joseph and Grace B. (Knight) Vik.

Marsha attended the local school systems. Marsha was a “tomboy” from day one. She played Cowboy & Indians, with army men and with trucks. There were no dolls for her! Marsha loved watching football and rooted for the West Virginia Mountaineers. She enjoyed riding on the open road with her husband Darold on the back of his Harley motorcycle. Of course, Marsha’s pet Chihuahua, “Killer” came along as she had her own goggles and chaps; logging close to 75,000 hours on the bike!

Marsha was very talented and possessed an eye for detail; making beautiful quilts, crocheting baby blankets, gardening and cooking for her family and friends. Anyone who knew Marsha could tell you she had a HUGE heart – she’d help anyone in need. When entering her home, she always made you feel welcome. Marsha supported her husband Darold as he served 20 years with the US Navy. They made their home in Alaska, Hawaii, California and Florida and back home to West Virginia. With each move Marsha made friends easily.

Marsha and Darold would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 31. Darold had booked a cruise for them, hoping to surprise Marsha. They loved each other through “thick-n-thin.” She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by: her husband, Darold; her two sons, Darold S. Brinley and wife Stephanie and Joseph A. Brinley and wife Sandra; three grandchildren, Jessica A. Klaiber and husband Dakota, Douglas A. Brinley and Madison P. Brinley; two sisters, Rose Ann and husband Mickey and Bonnie Griffin and husband Gary; brother, Joseph W. Vik and companion Lynn; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Lee and husband, Marcia Kenyon and husband and Roberta Anderson; brother-in-law, Obert Brinley; several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

Marsha was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Cheri L. (Vik) Dowell, and by her husband’s parents, Cecil and Marcella (Tweten) Brinley.

A celebration of her life will be held on Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. in White Sulphur Springs at the Taylor Residence, 890 Tuckahoe Road.

Another gathering will be held on Oct. 14 at the Kerr’s Residence, 48103 First Street, Altoona, FL.

Marsha’s last wish was to have her ashes spread during the bike week at Sturgis, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christus Sister Mary Hospice Center, 5131 Medical Dr., Suite 310, San Antonia, TX 78229.
