Dear Recycle Lady,

Can paint cans be recycled?  Must they be empty before being recycled?

Painter

Dear Painter,

If your paint cans are empty, and the paint is completely dried, the cans can be recycled with steel cans. Be sure the cans are steel; test them with a magnet if in doubt.  Some cans today are made of plastic, and they are not acceptable for recycling. Non-empty paint cans can be sent to the landfill with some preparation. If there is a small amount of paint left, remove the lids, and let the paint dry out.  If there is large amount of paint left, add kitty litter to the paint to harden it or purchase a commercial paint hardener to help dry out the paint. These cans cannot be recycled, but can be sent to the landfill.

Dear Recycle Lady,

Howdy! Do you take window mount air conditioners? Thank you.

Cooling off

Dear Cooling Off,

Yes, the Recycling Center takes used air conditioners. Just take them to the Center in Ronceverte and pull into the road where it says Aluminum Cans.  Go in the door and push the buzzer. Someone will come to assist you.

TIRE COLLECTION – Thursday, May 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., passenger car or light truck tires will be collected at the Greenbrier County Landfill. Tires must be off the rim and there is a 10 tire limit. No tires from businesses will be accepted. Sponsored by REAP and the WV Dept. of Environmental Protection, the tire collection is open to all state residents.

Have questions about recycling, or interesting information about recycling? Send questions or requests to recyclelady@greenbrier-swa.com.  Dear Recycle Lady is sponsored jointly by the Greenbrier Recycling Center and Greenworks Recycling.
