Addie McCoy Childs

Country Meadows of Frederick, MD-Addie McCoy Childs, 86, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022 at Frederick Health Hospital.

Addie, daughter of Goldie (Jackson) and John Omer McCoy, was born on Nov. 14, 1936, in Williamsburg, WV.

She married John Hurst Childs on June 13, 1959.  They were married 44 years until John passed away in December 2003.

Addie graduated from Concord College with degrees in home economics and physical education. She taught for many years in the Baltimore County school system. Later, when the family moved to Bethlehem, PA, she taught culinary arts classes and was very involved in the local community. Addie was known for her quick wit and engaging personality, and most especially for her generous hospitality.  She thrived on entertaining and creating gourmet meals and original dishes. She was famous for her bread making abilities and for sharing her skills and knowledge with others.

The family is immeasurably grateful for the many years of kind, loving care and deep friendships Addie enjoyed at Country Meadows of Frederick.

Addie is survived by her two sons, John Matthew Childs and wife Liudmila, and Daniel McCoy Childs and wife Selina; grandchildren, Lillian Childs, Nathan Childs, and Andrei “AJ” Childs; two sisters, Barbara Shannon and Linda Germeroth, and brother, Robert McCoy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by a sister, Wanda Perry; and brothers, James McCoy, Warren McCoy, and Wayne McCoy.

A memorial service and gathering was held at Stauffer Funeral Home at 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Sunday, Dec. 18.

Please honor Addie by considering a donation to the Country Meadows Co-Worker Foundation, which helps Country Meadows co-workers who have experienced unplanned emergencies and need outside support: https://www.countrymeadows.com/about-us/co-worker-foundation
