WVU Medicine, the state’s largest private employer and leading academic health system, will serve as the title sponsor for the sixth annual GameChanger Prevention Education Dinner and Golf Classic at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs on May 27 and 28. The two-day event raises funds and awareness for the GameChanger Prevention Education Program in West Virginia’s schools.

“WVU Medicine is proud to lend its name as the title sponsor for this important annual event,” Albert L. Wright, Jr., president and CEO of the WVU Health System, said. “We appreciate the broad group of West Virginia business, civic, faith and political leaders who come together each year to support the programming this event helps fund and the positive impact those programs have on children across West Virginia.”

The event, which attracts supporters and participants as well as top prevention specialists from across the nation, begins with a welcome reception and dinner on Wednesday, May 27, followed by the 18-hole scramble golf event on Thursday, May 28.

GameChanger executive director Joe Boczek said attracting a title sponsor and supporter of the caliber of WVU Medicine speaks volumes of the progress GameChanger continues to make.

“When the subject of excellent, comprehensive medical care, including treatment and prevention, is discussed throughout West Virginia, WVU Medicine is the first name mentioned by those who know,” Boczek said. “To have the support of such an outstanding organization dedicated to the overall health of the people of West Virginia just adds to the credibility GameChanger is working to establish.”

GameChanger is an innovative, comprehensive K-12 student-powered prevention model that delivers a holistic approach to prevention education. Through evidence-based, and evidence-informed, programming, community awareness initiatives, and the intentional cultivation of supportive school environments, GameChanger works to reduce substance abuse and empowers youth to make healthy and informed decisions as they develop into leaders of tomorrow.
