Wilma Mae Hammack

Lewisburg – Wilma Mae Hammack, 91, died Thursday, Mar. 22, 2018  at Greenbrier Health Care Center after a short illness.

She was born Sept. 7, 1926, to the late Flora and Benjamin Franklin Board in Mason, WV.

Growing up in Mason County, she graduated from Wahama High School, going on to business school.

Mrs. Hammack was a former resident of Charleston and served many years as executive secretary for the Charleston Chamber of Commerce and later for Columbia Gas Transmission in the legal department as legal secretary and librarian. She and her husband were charter members of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church and later congregants of Old Stone Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Douglas Hammack; grandson, Joseph Preston Allen; and three sisters, Mildred Irene Konieczny, Ruth Marie Johnson, and Mary Lucille Berry.

Surviving are her only child, Rebecca Jane Hammack Allen of Union and her husband, Michael Allen.

Visitation and funeral service was held Monday, Mar. 26, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, where Pastor Anna Straight officiated. Committal services were held Tuesday, Mar. 27, at the Graceland Memorial Park Chapel in Charleston, WV. Burial was in Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery where Wilma will reside alongside the love of her life, John Hammack.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to STAIR (Start of Adventure in Reading) a 2nd grade reading tutoring group, c/o Old Stone, 644 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
