The White Sulphur Springs Lions Club begins its annual Rifle Raffle immediately after Labor Day. Chairman George Gillespie will be setting up sales at the Battleground Crossing Shopping Center near Walgreens, and tickets will also be available through any of the Lions members.
They do this fundraiser (and others) to help support the community in several ways. One, is to provide eyeglasses and exams for those who cannot afford them. If you need help and live in the White Sulphur area, contact Mary Ann Hensley for an application. She can be reached at 304-992-2337. This particular club only provides for the White Sulphur area, but clubs in Lewisburg, Union, and Ronceverte also can help in their respective areas.
Lions not only support local needs, but also contribute to the International Foundation, which provides humanitarian services and grants for flood relief and other disasters. Several times after West Virginia floods, local clubs have received grants to provide immediate cash relief to help residents.
The White Sulphur Club meets each second and fourth Monday at 7 p.m. in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Main Street. They are always looking for new members who are interested in community projects.
