Investment Will Help Provide Critical Community Infrastructure for 1,190 residents
U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development West Virginia State Director John Reisenweber has announced that the Town of Rainelle will receive $1.7 million for new sidewalks throughout the town.
“At USDA Rural Development, we are working every day to ensure our rural communities have the resources they need to access safe and reliable infrastructure,” said State Director Reisenweber, “These upgraded sidewalks will make Rainelle safer, more connected, and improve stormwater drainage systems. This investment strengthens the town’s long-term vitality and supports rural prosperity.”
“This Community Facilities Grant will make needed investment in the safety and well-being of West Virginians across the Town of Rainelle,” said Senator Shelley Moore Capito. “By securing this funding, the town will be able to repair and improve their sidewalks, making them safer and more accessible for residents. I’m proud to have secured resources for these upgrades to strengthen Rainelle’s infrastructure, prevent further damage from stormwater, and improve accessibility for West Virginians in the community.”
The grant investment, provided through USDA’s Community Facilities Program, will rehabilitate aging and deteriorated sidewalks throughout the Town of Rainelle. These improvements will increase safety, accessibility, and walkability for residents and address uneven surfaces, cracks, and drainage issues. The improvements will also strengthen the town’s infrastructure by redirecting stormwater away from roadways, helping to reduce long-term maintenance needs and protect public investment.
“This project may seem simple, but it will have a real impact on the people of Rainelle,” said the Town of Rainelle Mayor Andrea Pendleton. “Rainelle is a close-knit community, and these sidewalks will help keep us connected, not only connecting our residents to our downtown business district, but also to friends and neighbors. We’re grateful for the support that helped make this project a reality.”
