State Treasurer Larry Pack announced recently his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division completed 1,375 successful searches of unclaimed property totaling $441,687 during the 2026 State Fair of West Virginia in Greenbrier County.
“Finding more than $441,000 in unclaimed property for fairgoers this year shows just how much money is still waiting to be reunited with its rightful owners,” Treasurer Pack said. “This near-record amount builds on the tremendous success we had at last year’s State Fair and reinforces why it’s so important for our team to get out into communities across West Virginia. Every dollar we identify belongs to a person, family, or business, and we’re committed to making it as easy as possible for West Virginians to search for and claim the money that belongs to them.”
This was the second year the State Treasurer’s Office was able to officially track unclaimed property searches from the thousands of fairgoers who stopped by the State Fair of West Virginia from Aug. 13-22. The Office had set up a QR code to allow fairgoers to search the Unclaimed Property Database themselves.
The Treasurer’s Office also held a live auction of unclaimed property on Aug. 22. The total amount made for the auction was $6,578.30. Items that were auctioned off included coins, watches, knives, and collectible cards. The most interesting item up for auction this year was a ticket for an Elvis Presley concert in Huntington, dated September 1977, which sold for $425.
The Unclaimed Property Division returned a near record of $40.2 million during the last fiscal year. In July, more than $1.3 million in unclaimed property was returned to individuals, businesses, and organizations.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $527 million worth of listings in its database.
