Travis McClintic throws 13 shots to lead the field at Pipestem in WV Irish Road Bowling Association state qualifier

Travis McClintic, WV Irish Road Bowling state champion in 2012, threw 13 shots to cover the one mile Pipestem road on Apr. 27. Mark Whitt, from Shady Spring, threw 15 shots with farthest across the finish, followed by current state champion Stephen Wallington of Culloden, and Wayne Marrs from West Union, both also with 15 throws.

Bryan Wimer, Morgantown, covered the road in 16 shots. Rich Meece, Shady Spring and Wayne Crook, Shady Spring, both scored 17. Organizer Kevin Smith, Glen Morgan, threw 19 shots. In women’s qualifier, Elise McClintic, Lewisburg, threw 18 shots, and Samantha Mann, Shady Spring, 25 shots.

The West Virginia Irish Road Bowling Association qualifiers for the state championship June 28, 29, are open to the public, men and women. The next qualifier will be Sunday May 18, at the Strawberry Festival on Turkey Run Road, Buckhannon.

Seeking New Bowlers: WVIRBA Qualifiers Open to the Public The WVIRBA is seeking indoor bowlers, baseball pitchers, football players, horseshoe pitchers, fishermen practiced in tall tales, or anyone anywhere who wants to come out on a beautiful country road and hurl an iron and steel ball as hard as they can on every throw and not get arrested. There are several grades, so even beginning players have a real chance to qualify in those lowest grades for the WV state championship, June 28, 29. The championship will be held in Ireland, WV.

Second WVIRBA Qualifier: Open to the Public – Sunday, May 18, Strawberry Festival, Buckhannon, Turkey Run Road (two miles north of Buckhannon on Rt. 20).

Team/fun bowling Saturday and Sunday. Singles Qualifiers Register Sunday 1 p.m. For information, David Powell 202-387-1680, 202-905-1959 cell, Mark Wilt 304-698-6817 cell.

Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, the WV State Championship will be held in Ireland, WV. Winners there go on to the national finals in Wampatuck State Park, south of Boston, Aug. 2 and 3. Come to Boston, walk the road and cheer on our WV team! Winners in Wampatuck go on to the All Ireland Finals in the country of Ireland.
