Thelma Ruth Nelson was born Aug. 3, 1941, to the late Worth and Marie Williams. She grew up in Marietta, NC. where she was raised with love and strong family values. In her early twenties, Thelma moved to New York City, where she later met and married the love of her life, the late Henry Nelson. Together they built a life filled with love, family and laughter.
Thelma will be remembered for her loving and generous spirit. She was always willing to help others and had a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around her.
On Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, between 5:30 and 6 p.m., Thelma entered eternal rest at the Peyton Hospice House, surrounded by love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Worth and Marie Williams, her husband, Henry Nelson; two sisters Dorothy Lee Williams and Nedra Norris Williams; one brother, Leo Williams, and nephew, Leo Williams, Jr.
Thelma leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Monica McNeil and son-in-law, Anthony McNeil; son, Henry Nelson; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild; Shiquan Anthony Nelson, Milan Monique McNeil, Michael Carter McNeil, Savannah Marie Nelson, Mackayla McNeil and Amani Lashaun Nelson. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Vivian Marie Williams, Charay Worth Williams and her great-nieces and nephews, Tiffany Blair, Zayzier Blaier, Tyrell Blair and Tariq Blair.
Thelma’s memory will continue to love on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever remember her kindness, laughter and love.
