Greenbrier County Commissioner Tammy Tincher, on Tuesday, announced that she has accepted a position with the National Association of Counties (NACo), and will be resigning her position as commissioner, a role she has filled since her initial election in 2018.
“It’s been an honor to serve Greenbrier County as commissioner for the past seven years,” Tincher said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue developing community engagement and collaboration among counties across the country.”
Tincher previously served on NACo’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee as Northeast Region Representative. In her new role as Director of Member Engagement, Tincher will work to strengthen the organization’s relationships with its nationwide network of members.
In a press release announcing Tincher’s hiring, NACo Executive Director and CEO Matthew Chase said that, “Tammy’s experience, leadership, and deep understanding of county government make her an exceptional addition to the NACo team.”
As part of her earlier work with NACo, Tincher, in September 2023, testified before the United States Congress as to the benefits of the EPA’s Brownfields program in the Meadow River Valley. Tincher appeared alongside other nationally-recognized experts to discuss Congress’ potential reauthorization of the Brownfield’s program. Tincher also served previously as President of the County Commissioners Association of WV.
With Tincher’s resignation comes the expectation of the two remaining commissioner’s appointment of a Republican as interim commissioner. As Tincher is a Republican, a Republican must be appointed to serve until such time as Greenbrier County’s next general election in 2026. The winner of that election will then serve out the remaining four years of Tincher’s unexpired term. Tincher’s resignation will take effect on Monday, Nov. 3.
“She has brought a lot of things to the county, and we appreciate her efforts,” said Commission President Lowell Rose, before joining Holliday in presenting Tincher a decorative logo of Greenbrier County.
RealWV will provide updates as to the identity of the appointed interim commissioner as additional information is made available.
