The legacy of Dr. Darrell K. Cales and his dedication to supporting educational opportunities for children will live on for years to come at Smoot Elementary School. Through a $5,000 grant from the DK Cales Foundation, the school will purchase a new and much-needed sound system for the gymnasium.

Dr. Cales, who opened his dental practice in Rainelle in 1961, supported the town and surrounding areas wholeheartedly. With his passing, the DK Cales Foundation was established to continue his work for a better tomorrow for the students of today.

“Our school is immensely grateful for the support given by the DK Cales Foundation. The investment in our sound system will not only enhance our instructional efforts, it will benefit all who use this space in our community school,” said Smoot Elementary Principal Molly Judy.
