Road closure doesn’t deter Tilapia Dinner attendees in WSS

Traffic on US 60 West of White Sulphur Springs Friday was backed up in both directions due to a huge tree which fell across both lanes of the highway.

But, according to Bob Hasernohr, grand knight of the Greenbrier Valley Council 8689, Knights of Columbus, the traffic to the first tilapia dinner of the Lent season remained steady with the Knights serving some 130 or more dinners during the 4:30 to 7 p.m. dining time.

The dinners will continue each Friday, Feb. 27 thru Friday, Mar. 27 at the White Sulphur Springs Banquet Room of The Schoolhouse Hotel, located behind the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in downtown White Sulphur Springs.

The dinners consist of a generous portion of tilapia (baked or fried) scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, hard rolls, drinks and desserts for $18 per plate and an extra piece of Tilapia can be purchased for only $5. Children under 5 are free. “We encourage children between the ages of 5-12 to order the extra piece of Tilapia with the parent’s meal and the Knights will provide a side to go with it for the child’s meal.”

Meals are eat in or to go and proceeds support the youth programs, community projects, church projects and council programs of the local Knights of Columbus.

“This past fall, our council purchased and delivered a case of 12 brand new children’s winter coats to the each of 15 public elementary schools in Meadow Bridge, Monroe County, Greenbrier County and Pocahontas County in addition to a case to the Family Resource Network in Monroe and in Pocahontas County, Wellspring and the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive in Greenbrier County.

For further information, contact the Knights of Columbus at 304-520-6868 or the office of the Catholic Churches of Greenbrier Valley at 304-536-1813.
