Union-Richard “Dick” L. Nichols, 83, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Dick was born June 6, 1930, at Sinks Groves to the late Alexander Clifford and Alice Myles Eades Nichols.

Dick was a member of the Union Church of God, a Korean Marine Veteran and a Proud Farmer!

Other than his parents, Dick was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Wilkerson, Lucille Craig, Marjorie Skidmore and brother, Alexander Clifford Nichols, Jr.

Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Edith June Nichols; daughters, Teresa Nichols Broyles and husband Randy of Ronceverte and Joan Nichols Reed and husband Clayton of Pickaway; sons, Richard “Rick” Nichols and wife Pam of Union, James Robert “Bob” Nichols and wife Ronda of Waynesboro, PA and Dan Nichols of Union; sister, Veva Helms and husband Harry of Zenith; brothers, Joe Nichols of Sinks Grove. Pete Nichols and wife Nancy of Salem, VA, Johnny Nichols and wife Linda of Kents Store, VA, Larry Nichols and wife Shirley of Alderson and Wayne Nichols of Indiana; grandchildren, Jared Surbaugh and wife Lauren, Kevin Surbaugh, Alex Nichols, Lindsey Reed, Kelsey Reed, Ashley Nichols, Rylan Nichols, Travis Broyles and Kristi Broyles; great-grandchildren, Emma Surbaugh and Carson Broyles.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Union Church of God with Pastor Michael K. Smith officiating with special speaker Tony Barrier.

Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

The family received friends Thursday evening, Jan. 9 at the Union Church of God.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte is in charge of arrangements.
