Rainelle Mayor Andrea Pendleton announces the annual Meadow River Sporting Festival to take place May 2, 3 and 4. The festival will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday with a golf tournament at Greenbrier Hills Golf Course.

Pendleton says fun and frivolity will entertain both young and old all of Saturday, when the day begins with the 10 a.m. Opening Day Parade, with Secretary of State and Senatorial Candidate Natalie Tennant serving as the Grand Marshal. Tennant will also open the sporting festivities at 12 noon with the shooting of her own muzzleloader at the Armory. Along with the sporting events, the Lewis and Clark Carriage Service and the WVU Lumberjack Team will commence their rides and demonstrations.

In addition to muzzleloading, competitions in corn hole, horseshoe, turkey calling and archery will go on throughout the day, and the prizes donated by Park Center Sporting Goods are very generous, says Pendleton. Included are a Smith & Wesson M/P 15 22LR, a Matthew’s Drenalin Bow, a Traditions SOCAL Muzzleloader, and an American Hunting Blind; the total value of these prizes is over $1,600.

Food venders, children’s games and wood chopping will be enhanced with a special guest performer, X Factor star and Meadow Bridge native, Colton Pack will be performing for several hours beginning at 1 p.m. From 7 until 9 p.m. the band Switch will perform on the main stage.

Pendleton expresses much gratitude for all of the businesses and individuals who have donated items or volunteered to make this year’s festival a success. Darrell Brown, Angie Robinson and Robin Williams have been especially involved in organizing the events and donations. “We wouldn’t have gotten Colton Pack to the event without sponsorship from Coy Flowers, Greenbrier Valley Physicians and the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center,” says Pendleton.

Pendleton would like to remind everyone that the weather report could be better; so prepare by bringing your umbrellas, and also do not forget to bring lawn chairs for your families.
