Old Stone Presbyterian Church calls interim pastor

On Sunday, Mar. 1, the congregation of Old Stone Presbyterian Church welcomed The Reverend Cameron R. Harkness as the interim minister. He comes to this position not as a stranger to Old Stone or to Lewisburg.

Reverend Harkness graduated from Davidson College in 1966 and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond in 1969. He has served pastorates in Kansas City, Missouri; Dunedin, Wauchula, and Orange Park in Florida; Weslaco, Texas; and, Leesburg, Virginia.

Following retirement to Lewisburg, Reverend Harkness has served as the interim minister at Marlinton Presbyterian Church and Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Harkness brings a vitality to the ministry that is especially youth friendly. His invitation each Sunday to the children in the congregation to check out his “black bag of special items” intrigues them and creates the basis of his message to them.

He and his wife, the former Susan Hibbert of Lewisburg, were married at Old Stone 46 years ago. They have two sons and four grandchildren. They have a cocker spaniel, Jasper, who accompanies them pretty much everywhere they go! Cameron and Susan enjoy all things West Virginia and especially love spending time with family and friends. They are very happy to be a part of the continuing ministry of Old Stone Presbyterian Church.

You are invited to join us in officially greeting the Harknesses to our church and community and join in the Worship Services and other programs of Old Stone Presbyterian Church.
