New River Community and Technical College has officially announced the hiring of Steven (Steve) Lacek as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, effective May 2, 2025.
Lacek brings over 20 years of experience in higher education, with a strong background in academic leadership, student success initiatives, and data-informed institutional improvement. He has served in the interim role since July 2024 and previously held several key positions at New River CTC, including Accreditation Liaison Officer and Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants.
During his time as Interim Vice President, Lacek led numerous strategic initiatives, including the implementation of new student orientation programs, the development of workforce-aligned academic programs, and articulation agreements with regional universities. His leadership also supported successful audits, accreditation applications, and the awarding of over $3 million in Pell Grants to students.
“Steve has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to our students and faculty,” said Dr. Bonny Ball Copenhaver, President of New River CTC. “His experience and vision will be key to advancing academic excellence and expanding student-centered opportunities across the college.”
Lacek holds a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Marshall University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Concord University. He has been recognized for his excellence in community college education with multiple awards and has managed more than $10 million in grant funding throughout his career.
