It was fun watching our young team step up and accept the challenges that were thrown at them this past weekend at Point Pleasant.

We did not defend our championship, but we made a statement to let other teams know that we are here to stay! On the first day we had seven wrestlers go undefeated. Congratulations to Landen Hoover, Waymon Browning, Zach Mullins, Liam Leaseburge, Colby Piner, Owen Quinn, and Nick Thomas. Overall, our top wrestlers for the tournament were the previous seven mentioned along with Cayden Hoover, Bruce Humphreys, and Robert Dunz-Blevins. We are excited to continue our success! A BIG thank you goes out to all the parents and coaches who helped. We appreciate the kindness and loyalty.

Trivia: This season we have four wrestling team captains. Can you name them?

Upcoming events and highlights:

Congratulations to Colby Piner for being named second team all-state in football. It’s not a coincidence that Colby is also a regional champion, captain and state ranked wrestler. Both of those sports go hand in hand.

Our first home wrestling meet (The Greenbrier Duals) will be on Saturday, Dec. 15 starting at 11 a.m. Please come out and show support for our team. We will wrestle throughout the day. Stop by at any time to enjoy some wrestling. It will end around 6 p.m.

The Region 3 Dual Meet Championships will be at St. Albans on Thursday, Dec. 20. at 6 p.m. It will be very exciting with some great competition.

EGMS update: This team is improving faster than anticipated. They LOVE to compete. Give me a child who likes to compete and I’ll show you a person who will succeed in life!

Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club is accepting memberships for anyone interested in wrestling (age 4-12). Contact Coach Carl Godby at 1-304-667-4615. The youth team competed at the independence tournament with huge success. Keep up the great job!

Miluk humor: My wife said that she wanted jewelry for Christmas… So, I bought her a “Life Alert” bracelet. (She DID NOT think it was funny!) Ha!

Trivia answer: The Greenbrier East Wrestling Team Captains are Colby Piner (Soph.), Zach Mullins (Jr.), Owen Quinn (Jr.) and Cayden Hoover. Their leadership in the wrestling room and in the community is vital to our success as a program. We are blessed to have them as our leaders!

Greenbrier East High School Wrester of the Week:

Name: Zach Mullins

Grade: 11th Grade

G.P.A.: 3.65

Parents: John and Carrie Chapman

Record: 7-0 (four pins)

Highlight: Point Pleasant Champion

Quote: “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball”

Coach’s Comment: “Zach is the ‘real deal.’ He has become a student of the sport and understands the mindset of a champion. It’s enjoyable to watch him compete.”
