Greenbrier East Wrestling Newsletter

By Brian Miluk, Wrestling Coach

Congratulations to the Greenbrier West Football team. It was such a great pleasure watching them win last Saturday. Not only was I proud because they are from Greenbrier County but I was especially proud of all the wrestlers on their team that helped make it happen. When you look down on the field and you see all those great wrestlers like Boatwright, Yoakum, Frazier, Grimmitt, Goddard, Loudermilk, Patton, Robertson, Tincher, Kessler and others, it’s not a surprise that they know how to compete. WRESTLERS KNOW HOW TO COMPETE! It is not a coincidence that the A/AA State Wrestling Champions (Greenbrier West) are in the State Football Finals. Oh by the way, the AAA State Wrestling Champions (Huntington) are also in the State Football Finals. Good Luck to all the teams and Stay Healthy!

TRIVIA:

Dylan Bullock has an opportunity to become only the third Greenbrier East wrestler in history to get over 100 victories in his career. How many more matches does he have to win this season to reach the “Century Club?”

Upcoming events and highlights

Throughout the season we bring in successful people to talk with our wrestlers. We strive for success on and off the mat. This past week we had the pleasure of having a student from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine come and talk to our student-athletes. Not only did he bring a message of inspiration but he also worked out with our top wrestlers. Soon to be Dr. Steve Malutich was a big help to everyone. My favorite line from him was “I didn’t wrestle because I wanted to be a Doctor, but I am becoming a Doctor because I was a wrestler!” Wrestling teaches Life Skills.

The wrestlers have been working hard and training for the season to begin. Well, IT’S SHOWTIME!! Our goal for the Beckley Newspaper Invitational Wrestling Tournament is to improve from last year’s results. Josiah Solak (Jr.) is the defending Champion. Jasiel Kinder (Soph.) and Adam Zimmerman (Jr.) were also finalists last year. Other Place-winners were Chris Delany (Soph.) and Charles Withrow (Sr.). If we stay focused, our goals will be reached on Saturday night with many place-winners. Other wrestlers looking to place are Katie Ervin (Jr.), Logan Evans (Fr.), Sheldon Simmons (Soph.), Dylan Bullock (Sr.), Michael Villers (Jr.), Joe Sampson (Sr.), Keegan Mickey (Sr.), Draegan McQuade (Fr.), Tyler Eagle (Jr.), Paul Flowers (Fr.), Levi Nelson (Sr.) and Evan Roberts (Jr.).  Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk.

MILUK HUMOR

: I am not saying that I am old, but… The last piece of jewelry that my wife bought me was a “Life-Alert” bracelet. (Ouch!)

TRIVIA ANSWER:

Dylan Bullock currently has 86 victories and needs only 14 more wins to reach that exclusive milestone of 100 wins.
