Lewisburg-Michael “Mike” Henry Nothem, 72, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Strayer Nothem, his father, Melvin Howard Nothem, and his granddaughter, Avery Mae Nothem.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Malinda “Missy” Nothem of Lewisburg; his son, Chris Nothem (Erin) and their daughters Mallory and Greta Nothem of Columbus, Ohio; his daughter, Melanie Nothem (Kim Harrison) of Cross Junction, VA, and his stepdaughter, Kate Harris (Morgan Myers) and their daughter Emily Myers of Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by sisters, Susanne Campisano (Fred) of Hamilton, OH and Phoenix, AZ, Diane Coleman of Erie, PA, and Patricia Macatangay (Epifanio) of Strongsville, OH; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Mike was born on May 28, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For the first two years of his life, Mike was raised in Port Washington, WI, with his sisters. They then moved to Ashtabula, OH, where he graduated from St. John’s High School. He attended Kent State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1972.  After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served for nine years.  He received an honorable discharge with the rank of Captain.  During his time in the Army, he earned a master’s degree in nursing and was a nurse anesthetist for 35 years, including 22 years at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. Mike took great pride in his nursing career and cherished his colleagues. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, and was a loyal Browns football fan. Mike loved movies, classic rock music, and was an exceptional chef with a particular interest and adoration for New Orleans cuisine and culture. He was a master storyteller and had the best sense of humor. Most of all, he was a loving and devoted father, husband, brother, uncle and son.

There will be a celebration of life this spring in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Greenbrier County Committee on Aging, Inc., P.O. Box 556, Rupert, WV 25984 (304) 392-5138.
