Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced a total of $6,157,624 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) for AFL-CIO Appalachian Council Head Start. This funding will allow this program to continue to provide educational, health, parent, community, and social services to children and their families living at or below the federal poverty guidelines.
“In West Virginia, we prioritize our commitments based on our values, and that means keeping our promises to those who matter the most to us, our children,” Senator Manchin said. “Our West Virginia children and families who participate in Head Start rely on this funding for crucial health, nutrition, education and social services. I have always been a proud supporter of Head Start programs, and I am glad this funding will make sure these valuable programs are available to those who need them.”
Head Start is a national development program for low-income children that helps prepare them for school from a young age. The program, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), offers eligible children and their families’ access to critical health, nutrition, education, and social services.
