November 21, 1953 – March 11, 2026
“With grace, strength, and impeccable manners.”

Linda Stoner Fox, age 72, of Philadelphia, PA, passed on Mar. 11, 2026 in Charleston, SC. She lived a life defined not by circumstance but by character – steady, warm, and quietly unshakeable. She faced cancer three times, and each time met it with humor, dignity, and a stubbornness her family would give anything to see once more.

Linda was, above all else, a listener – not the polite kind, but the real kind. She made whoever she was with feel that they were the most interesting person in the room and that whatever they had to say mattered deeply. She followed up. She wrote letters by hand and made you feel remembered.

She was a show-er up per – at recitals and heartbreaks alike, often bearing something extraordinary she had made. She put others first with a constancy those who loved her are still reckoning with, having learned only in the days since her passing the full measure of what she quietly did for others. “The strongest person I know” has been said, again and again, by those whose lives she touched.

She loved books, musicals, scrapbooking, art of every kind, and the movies. She had manners that would have made Emily Post feel underdressed – and kept them even in her final days, thanking hospital staff through insurmountable pain. She knew how to throw a party: the annual Oscar celebrations she hosted with Dave were legendary, with red carpets and themed menus for every nominated film. She didn’t just throw parties. She built experiences.

Her most sacred place was the beach. She loved salt air, waves, a book in hand, and her toes in the sand.

Linda is survived by her daughters, Helen (Dave) and Rebekah (Nick), and her stepson Michael (Allie) – children she shaped, steadied, and loved with a love so certain they never once had to question it. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Sylvia and Vincent, and her step-grandchildren, Melina and Sami, whom she adored as Gammom; her brothers John and Stephen; her sisters Margaret, Janet, and Amy; and her cherished nieces and nephews Heather, Lindsey, Robert, Sean, Patrick, and Kieran, and their partners.

In 2020, Linda lost her beloved husband Dave – a grief she carried with the same quiet, stubborn dignity she carried everything. She missed him every single day. Those who loved her take some comfort now knowing she no longer has to.

A private celebration of Linda’s life will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in June. Details will be shared with family and friends directly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who loved her consider honoring her memory by supporting their local library.
