Library to host Fund Drive Kick-Off Event

The Trustees of the Greenbrier County Public Library invite library lovers to a kick-off celebration for its 2022-23 Fund Drive on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library.

The evening will feature refreshments and entertainment by Sarah Hann, a music educator and percussionist. Hann has an undergraduate degree in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in performance from Winthrop University. She has taught general music at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School since 2014 and was named Greenbrier County’s Teacher of the Year in 2018. She is active as a performer and educator in the area. While she enjoys all types of percussion, her areas of interest include hand drumming and mbira.

For the evening’s performance, Hann will be performing both contemporary and traditional pieces on the riq and mbira.  After the performance, guests are welcome to ask any questions about the instruments and try their hand at them as well.

Mardi McMillan, chair of the library’s Board of Trustees, noted that because of Covid-19, it has been three years since the last kick-off, so the evening will be somewhat of a homecoming for the library patrons who always look forward to the fellowship and fun of the event.

The goal for this year’s drive is $76,500. McMillan said that while the library receives public support from the state, the Greenbrier County Commission and the City of Lewisburg, it is not enough to allow the library to offer the full range of services the community needs. Support from private donors helps the library operate seven days a week and offer services such as a children’s reading program and passport application assistance, in addition to lending books, CDs and DVDs.

Tax deductible contributions can be mailed to: Greenbrier County Public Library, 152 Robert W. McCormick Dr., Lewisburg, WV 24901. If you prefer to make your donation by credit card, you can do so by calling the library at 304-647-7568.
