White Sulphur Springs – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lauretta Holmes Green, announces her death at the age of 95. She passed peacefully at home on Thursday, July 12, 2018, with her son, Harry by her side.
Born July 30, 1922, Lauretta was the daughter of the late William Banks Holmes and Bertie Virginia Martin Holmes.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in White Sulphur Springs. Lauretta retired from The Greenbrier after many years working there and enjoyed being at home. She loved sewing, knitting and gardening. She also enjoyed traveling to the local Amtrak station to watch the train arrivals and departures.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Green; her brother, William Holmes, Jr.; and sisters, Bertha Dozier and Sue Casey.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Harry M. Holmes, Sr. of White Sulphur Springs and Jonathan Green of Albany, NY; grandchildren, Michelle (Roger) Patterson of White Sulphur Springs, Harry Holmes, Jr. of Charleston, WV, Norbert (Kylie) Holmes of Hawaii, Kevin (Charlise) Holmes of California, Robert Holmes of Covington, VA and Maya Wilson of New York; great-grandchildren, Breonna Patterson of Georgia, Nathaniel Holmes of Arizona, Tobias, Ayannah and Hayden Holmes all of Mississippi along with many other loved ones and friends.
Her going home service will be held at First Baptist Church on Church Street in White Sulphur Springs on Saturday, July 21. The family will welcome and greet beginning at 11 a.m. with the service starting at 12 noon with Rev. Greg Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
