General Andrew Lewis Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution began their spring meetings on March 20 at the historic home of Carol Olson.
The following members were in attendance: Regent Suzanne Cronquist, Jodie Nidey, Doris Kasley, Sissie Isaac, Karen Lee McClung, Preslie Perry, Ruth Sturgill, Deborah Phillips, Addie Goodrich, Beverly Boswell, Vice Regent Judy Deegans, Mary Fullen, Barb Hiltner, Carol Olson, Joanna Perry and Brenda Rivers.
The meeting has just begun when the doorbell rang. Hostess Carol Olson opened the door to a surprise visit from Judge Henry St. George Tucker. Judge Tucker died in 1848 but he occasionally visits events and groups in the Lewisburg area. He thought we would like to hear him read from his father’s journal and letters home to Mrs. Tucker that he wrote during the Revolutionary War. It was both poignant and amusing to hear his father’s stories. Judge Tucker bid the group a good day and with a tip of his elegant hat, took his leave. The meeting resumed followed by tea and a delightful lemon chiffon pie baked by Carol Olson.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, non-political women’s service organization whose main objectives are historic preservation, education and patriotism. Members are all lineal descendants of those who supported the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War back in 1776.
