Hilda S. Johnson

Lewisburg-Hilda S. Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
She was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Sinks Grove, to the late Ashby Angus and Vida Hinkle Scott.
Hilda graduated from Union High School and went on to attend Greenbrier College for Women. She married R. Wellington Johnson in June of 1950. Mrs. Johnson was a Charter member of the First Baptist Church of Fairlea.
Other than her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Scott.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, R. Wellington Johnson; son, Dr. John Johnson (Kim Carter); and two daughters, Dr. Jane Johnson and Ruth Bartenslager (Arthur). She had five grandchildren, Annie Lorensen, David Johnson, Zach Bartenslager, Alison Bartenslager and Abbie Bartenslager.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her loving caregivers, Susie Ridgeway, Brenda McKinney and Letha Bowyer.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Aug. 1, at the First Baptist Church in Fairlea where Dr. Dallas Smith officiated. A reception followed in the Fellowship Hall.
Friends called Sunday evening, July 31, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
Donations of sympathy may be made to the Ann Edwards Memorial Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church or the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
