Lewisburg-Helen Avery Robinson, 99, died at home on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 29, 1919, to the late Griffin and Dorothy Johnson, Sr.

Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker and an alumna of Bolling High School in Lewisburg.  She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and loved reading her Bible. She started each morning with scripture and devotion, which was very important to her. Known affectionately by many as Aunt Helen or Mrs. Helen, she will be remembered for her beautiful spirit and Sunday outfits and hats. She had a wonderful sense of humor and graciously shared her wisdom with her family.

In addition to her parents Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel B. Robinson, and brothers, Griffin Johnson, Jr., Philip Johnson, Kay Johnson, William “Booker” Johnson and James Johnson, and sister, Charity Johnson Lewis.

Aunt Helen leaves behind caregivers and nieces, Phyllis Johnson and Beverly White (both of Lewisburg); great-niece, Avery Johnson Bakeley (Michael) (of Blacksburg, VA), her namesake whom she helped raise. She also leaves behind niece, Karen Johnson (Lewisburg) and nephew Berry Johnson (Charlotte, NC), as well as great-nephews, Stacy Johnson (Stacy) (Lewisburg), David Johnson (Jane Ann) (children Isaiah and Milleah) (Huntington), Corey Johnson (Charlotte, NC), Chris White (Kathy) (children Ian and Rachel) (St. Albans), and great-nieces, Sharlene Simpson (Eric) (children Trey and Karah) (Bristow, VA) and Alencia Johnson (New York City, NY). Finally, she leaves behind her special canine companion, Sugar Bear, who brought a smile to her face every day. She had a host of additional nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly, including special friends, Edna Swann and Edith Seams (both of Lewisburg) and Amy Hickman (formerly of Lewisburg).

Honoring her wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg. All are welcome to come to the service. In case of inclement weather services will be held at Morgan Funeral Home.

Morgan Funeral Home, 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg (304-645-1851) is in charge of arrangements.
