Harvey L. Hanger
Hinton-Harvey L. “Hank” Hanger, 94, passed away Wednesday, Mar. 4, 2015, at home following a short illness.
Born Apr. 22, 1920, in Hinton, he was the son of the late William T. and Mary Ann Dolin.
Hank was in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a WWII Veteran who “flew the Hump.” He was a graduate of Greenbrier High School. Hank is a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. He retired from the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed basketball, baseball, golf, bowling, and bird hunting.
Hank is a past President and a charter member of the Marie Ruritan Club. He also was a member of the Elks Club, Willowood Country Club, VFW-Hinton, Veterans, and “Over the Hill Gang” bowlers at Greenbrier Valley League.
Hank is survived by: his wife, Julia Anne Wills Hanger at home; two sons, Leonard B. Hanger and wife Lee of Fayetteville and Russell N. Hanger and wife Cheryl of Bristol, TN; daughter, Lois A. Nelson and husband Terry of Thomas; grandson, Leonard A. “Len Allen” Hanger and wife LeeAnne; nine step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nephew, Robert Walters of Charlotte, NC and niece, Mary Beth Hendrick of Sterling, VA.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Mar. 7, with Pastor Linda Payton and Pastor Sam Groves. Friends called Saturday before the service. Burial will be held at a later date at the Hanger-Welsh cemetery.
Pallbearers were members of Marie Ruritan Club and Willowood Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marie Ruritan Club and Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
