Chairman Bill Shiflet (second from right) presents 2017 annual distribution checks to various nonprofits, represented by Kasey Carter (left), Jo Long, Dave Buhrman, Barbara Phillips and Missy Van Buren.

The board of directors of the Greater Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (GVCF) has announced that, with the addition of two new funds, its assets have grown to approximately $13.5 million and its charitable distributions to Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas County have now exceeded $4.2 million.

In response to these achievements, the board voted at its June meeting to reduce its administrative fee by 10 basis points.

The Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation is a collection of over 120 funds, each with its own charitable purpose. In 2017, these funds have already disbursed over $625,000 to 48 different nonprofit organizations in the Greenbrier Valley as well as in scholarships for higher education.

The two newest funds established with GVCF are the Williamsburg Community Fund and the Seneca Trail Charitable Foundation Fund. Both of these funds are donor-advised; therefore, an advisory committee for each will decide how to disburse the annual distributions. Their fund sponsors are excited to have a positive impact on the community, especially to ensure that all residents are safe and healthy.

Since becoming an independent nonprofit organization in 2010, GVCF’s assets have grown by over $10 million; however, its efficient organizational structure has allowed it to manage this growth within its existing economical construct. Consequently, GVCF has lowered its administrative fees three times over the past seven years.          Currently serving on the GVCF board are Chairman Bill Shiflet, Vice Chairman Diane Browning, Secretary/Treasurer Elizabeth Spangler, and members Anne Bowling, Phillip Cain, Ron Fleshman, David Hambrick, Nathaniel Harris, Tom Isaac, Greg Johnson, Jo Long, Phil McLaughlin, Charles Sheets, and William Shiffer.
