Greenbrier Valley Fitness raised over $1,200 for the Child and Youth Advocacy Center at its first annual Bend the Bar weight-lifting competition on Nov. 21. Over 20 men and women participated in bench press and deadlift competitions. Winners included Sam Garner (men’s bench press), Brandon Sizemore (men’s deadlift and 2nd place men’s overall), Elise McClintic (women’s bench press, women’s deadlift, and women’s overall), Nick Rookstool (men’s overall), Scott Loving (3rd place men’s overall), Haley Rudd (2nd place women’s overall), and Sherry Hawver (3rd place women’s overall).
Seventeen local businesses helped sponsor and/or donated items to the fundraiser. The event was a great way to support an important cause. The CYAC would like to thank Greenbrier Valley Fitness, who donated 100 percent of the proceeds, as well as the donors and participants, for their efforts to end child abuse and neglect in Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas Counties.
