The Greenbrier County Committee on Aging (GCCA) will host a Beans and Cornbread Luncheon and MAC DOWN Cooking Competition at the Rupert Community Center on Sunday, Nov. 2 from noon to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will include brown beans, cornbread, coleslaw and dessert for $8 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Musical entertainment will be provided from 1 to 2 p.m.

The MAC DOWN is open to all cooks! The entry fee is $10. Guest Judges will be judging the entries and the winner will receive a $100 cash prize. In addition, those attending the lunch can sample the macaroni and cheese dishes and vote for their favorite. The “People’s Choice” award will also receive a cash prize. If you wish to enter the MAC DOWN, applications are available at the Rupert GCCA nutrition site (304-392-5138) and the Fairlea GCCA nutrition site (304-645-1978) or on-line at greenbriercountycoa.com. Deadline for entries is Oct. 27.

This is truly a “comfort food” extravaganza with good food and friendly competition and support for the Committee on Aging. GCCA provides many services to seniors in Greenbrier County such as Meals on Wheels, home health services, respite care and transportation to name a few. If you or a family member need services please call GCCA at 304-394-5138 for more information. The GCCA is looking forward to a fun afternoon on Nov. 2 and hope all will attend.
