Greenbrier County BOE recognizes local academic achievers

The Greenbrier County Board of Education met for their May meeting on Monday, May 9.

The board was happy to have many students present for the “Time out for Applause” section, as students who won or placed in both the 2022 Regional Science and Engineering Fair and the 2022 Social Studies Fair were honored. Four students were also noted for becoming 2022 Greenbrier County Knights of the Golden Horseshoe, and Lynn White of Lewisburg Elementary was also honored with the 2022 WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics Teacher of the Year Award.

The students who were recognized for winning the Regional Science and Engineering fair are as follows:

Third Grade:

Alleeah Windon – Ronceverte Elementary

Annalee Jackson – Ronceverte Elementary

Amelia Wiley – Lewisburg Elementary

Natalie Byars – Lewisburg Elementary

Fourth Grade:

Jaxon Dolan White – Ronceverte Elementary

James Godby – Lewisburg Elementary

Arabella Webb – Lewisburg Elementary

Sean Clendenen – Lewisburg Elementary

Fifth Grade:

Steven Lipps – Crichton Elementary

Ivy Gretzinger – Crichton Elementary

Sixth Grade:

Kyndall Canterbury EGMS

Bristol Rule – EGMS

Tessa Spradlin – EGMS

Lilly Walkup-Wallman – EGMS

Those students who won at the State Science and Engineering Fair were Arabella Webb with 1st place in Math & Data, James Godby with 1st place in Energy, and Stephen Lipps with 3rd place in Biology.

Students were also recognized for their achievements at the County, Regional, and State level of the 2022 Social Studies Fair.

Those students, in no particular order are as follows: Lilly Tincher – Frankford Elementary, Macie Hileman – Frankford Elementary, Ardenne Woods – Frankford Elementary, Neena McClintic – EGMS, Avery Thompson – EGMS, Noelle McClintic – EGMS, Indigo Graves – GEHS, Sal Marks – Frankford Elementary, Emma Vincent – Lewisburg Elementary, Annabelle Holt – Lewisburg Elementary , Nathan Conaway – Ronceverte Elementary, Vitale DeRouen – Alderson Elementary, Andrew Rodes – WGMS, Aaron Rodes – WGMS, Benjamin Butler – WGMS, Micah DeRouen – EGMS, Isaac Tincher – EGMS, Alyson Vandall – GEHS, Colton Dehaven – WSS Elementary, Jaci Sams – WSS Elementary, Donna-Jean Barkley – GEHS, Madison Burdette – WGMS, Kameron Parker – WGMS, Brooklyn Adkins – WGMS, Nathaniel Vincent – EGMS, August Vincent – EGMS, Lena Adkins – WGMS, Jenna Hunter – WGMS, Kaylee Wingrove – WGMS, Cash Ridpath – Ronceverte Elementary, Mallory Frye – Lewisburg Elementary, Willow Ortiz – Lewisburg Elementary, Ethan Carter – Lewisburg Elementary, Asa Brown – Lewisburg Elementary, Jacob Mooney – WGMS, Orion Graves – EGMS, Arabella Crookshanks – GEHS, Emma Bennett – GEHS, Caroline Perilli Hankcock – Lewisburg Elementary, Ivy Gretzinger – WGMS, Tadom Truman – Crichton Elementary, Tate McMillion – EGMS, Adam Terry – EGMS, Mazie Shaver – EGMS.

Four area students were named Knights of the Golden Horseshoe at this month’s Board of Education meeting including Matthew Robinson of WGMS, Clayton Frame, Gregory Guet, and Braxton Beasley (not pictured) of EGMS. This prestigious program takes its name from the golden horseshoes given to the early explorers of West Virginia, and these students will be knighted at the State Capitol in Charleston in June.

Four students also scored well enough when tested on their knowledge of West Virginia history that they received the Golden Horseshoe, becoming Knights of the Golden Horseshoe. Those students were Matthew Robinson of WGMS, and Braxton Beasley, Clayton Frame, and Gregory Guet of EGMS.

The Greenbrier County Board of Education will be meeting again next month for their regularly scheduled meeting. The public is encouraged to attend.
