On Oct. 31, Alex Gillespie, a 2014 Greenbrier East FFA graduate, traveled to Louisville, KY to the National FFA Convention to be honored with the American FFA Degree. Alex is the son of Jerry and Charlie Gillespie of Lewisburg. He and 3,433 other FFA members from all over the nation received the degree at the convention. The American Degree is awarded to those who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA and have excelled in their supervised agricultural experience. To be a recipient of this award Alex and all other recipients had to have received the State FFA Degree, have 540 hours of secondary schooling, have been graduated for 12 months before convention, have maintained accurate records in their operation, have made at least $10,000, have an outstanding leadership record, have participated in 50 hours of community service, and has sent in an electronic application to the National FFA website. Congratulations to Alex on this outstanding achievement. Alex is picture with GEHS FFA members and advisor, Leah Vance.
