Clintonville-Gary Anthony Currence, 69, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.

Born Nov. 21, 1948, at Huttonsville, he was a son of the late Anthony Albert and Tina Pearl Shreves Currence.

Gary was a retired blaster and driller with both coal mines and road construction. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna “Joyce” Currence in 2004; sister, Mildred Currence; and four brothers, Lester, Jackson, Bobby and Paul Currence.

He is survived by daughter, Tammy Currence Reynolds (Roger) of Ronceverte; son, Paul Anthony Currence of Clintonville; grandson, Andrew Reynolds of Ronceverte; sisters, Betty Ware of Ohio, Judy Foster of Ripley, Evelyn Lester of Sutton, Nellie Page (Roy) of Wilson, NC and Isabelle Bishop of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; and brothers, Ralph, Delbert, Charlie and Steve Currence, all of Sutton, and Victor Currence of Akron, OH.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Elkins, with Pastor Mike Tincher officiating. There will be no evening visitation.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy be made to Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg WV 24901.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
