On Friday, May 8, at approximately 6:46 a.m., members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential fire that occurred on State Route 92 just north of White Sulphur Springs. White Sulphur Springs Fire and EMS responded to the scene, which was a garage apartment.
Preliminary indications are that the lone occupant had exited the residence, obtained a fire extinguisher and re-entered the home. The occupant was then unable to exit the structure prior to suffering what would be a fatal injury. The fire was subsequently extinguished by members of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department.
An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s office responded to the scene to conduct his investigation and determined the fire to be accidental.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
Sergeant D.W. Hedrick, of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, is the investigating officer.
