Lewisburg-Evon A. “Booky” Persinger, 91, formerly of Rainelle, entered heavenly rest on Saturday, Jan. 29. 2022, at Stonerise Lewisburg, formerly The Brier.

She was born at home in East Rainelle on Apr. 16, 1930, the sixth of six children born to the late Claude E., Sr., and Mildred Gee Vance.

Evon graduated from Rainelle High School in the class of 1948. She married her High School sweetheart, Lawrence “Buck” Persinger the love of her life in May 1951. Evon worked in the Insurance Industry for many years in Rainelle and Charleston, WV, until she, “Buck, and children moved back to their beloved Greenbrier County in 1968. She retired from Combustion Engineering (Now ABB) taking early retirement in 1985.  She and “Buck” were charter members in the organization of   Spartan Boosters at GEHS along with school administrators and loyal citizens with the focus of building an athletic faculty on campus. After months of diligent effort by members of the organization, loyal businesses and fans working together Spartan Stadium became a reality. She   was a member of Henning Church of God, the Women’s Christian Group (WCG) of the church, former Mother Advisor of the Order of Rainbow Girls, 50 plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a volunteer at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, “Buck” on Dec. 25, 2015; brother, Claude E. Vance, Jr. (2004); sisters, Virginia Yearego, (1998), Maude Price (2004), and Maxine McKnight (2016); sisters-in-law, Janet Vance (1989) and Janet Persinger Finch (2015); brothers-in-law, Nick Yearego (1989), Colenso Price (1997) and James “Micky”  McKnight (2004); mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mamie Houchins Persinger (1983) and H. Lawrence Persinger (1970).

Surviving her are dearly loved children, Lawrence Persinger, Jr. (Jeanne) of Rockwell, NC, Jamie K. Harvey (Eddie) of Lewisburg and Mark Persinger of O’Fallon, MO. Mom-Maw to adorable grandchildren, Christopher Harvey, Megan Roberts, Katie Mullins (Jason), Christin Gibson, Adam Persinger, Matthew Persinger (Olivia) and big Mom-Maw to four darling great-grandchildren,  Aiden Harvey,  Micah Persinger, Harper Mullins and Silas Mullins and soon to be Oliver Persinger with  whom she made many  fond memories. She is also survived by brother, Jim Vance (Shirley) of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4, at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel, 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg, with Pastor Robert Hefner officiating. Entombment will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum at Clintonville.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to the WCG c/o Henning Church of God, 3599 Vago Road, Frankford, WV  24738.

We will be following COVID-19 recommendations and ask all guests to wear a mask.
