It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister, Ellen Joyce Blakeslee Wright, on Dec. 10, 2025, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV. Born Nov. 22, 1962, in Washington, DC, she was a daughter of the late Ralph David Blakeslee and Elaine Herivel Blakeslee.
Ellen lived a life of service to her community. She received Jesus Christ as her Savior many years ago and firmly, consistently acknowledged His transforming power in her life. She utilized her spiritual gifts by dedicating her life to nursing and caring for others. She was a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for all who knew her.
She is survived by her two sons, Ben Wright and Zachary Wright, and their father, Jonathan Wright; a sister, Carolyn Blakeslee; and brothers, Jonathan (Marrianne), Paul (Wanda), and Erik (Suzy) Blakeslee.
Ellen graduated from Union (WV) High School in 1981 and from Jefferson College of Health Sciences, Roanoke, VA, in 1984. Ellen and Jonathan Wright were married in Ronceverte, WV, in January 1991. They lived in the Kansas City area in 1993-1994 and returned to Greenbrier County in December 1994. Their marriage ended in 2006, but they remained close to each other and shared many activities with their sons. Ellen maintained a strong lifelong friendship with Jonathan, who remained by her side throughout the challenges of life.
Ellen was a dedicated member of Ronceverte Baptist Church and loved helping with various church activities, especially those that utilized her cooking skills. She often took meals to shut-ins and those who were experiencing grief and other difficulties.
Ellen served as a registered nurse for approximately 40 years in numerous health facilities. Most recently she served as an RN at The Seasons Place in Lewisburg, and provided volunteer work for the Lewisburg HospiceCare Volunteer Department at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV.
Ellen was most fond of travels out West to provide medical care to indigenous communities primarily in New Mexico. She was very proud of her boys, Ben and Zach, and her siblings with their successes in life. She spoke often of them and let the world know how much she loved them. She also dearly loved her cat, Caesar, who stayed very close by her side up to the time of her passage to heaven.
Ellen passed away surrounded by family and friends. Her special caregivers and longtime friends performed vigil while the family traveled to be with Ellen in her final hours. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Sharon Dunbar and Patty Coffman for providing this deep, selfless, loving care for Ellen during the last weeks of her life.
Visitation will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Ronceverte Baptist Church in Ronceverte, WV, followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte. Online guestbook can be signed at www.morganfh.net. Arrangements entrusted to Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
