Lewisburg-Dorothy Gail Burns (known to many as Butch), 79, went to be with our Lord Monday morning, June 10, 2019, at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.

Butch was born July 20, 1939, in Fairlea, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Doris Leftwich Surber.

Gail was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Greenbrier High School in Ronceverte; a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan University and received her Masters in Education plus 15 from Radford University Radford, VA. She taught at many levels and was happiest as a teacher at Lewisburg Elementary School. Her career was 30 plus years.

Preceding her in death, other than her parents, were sister, Jean Surber Boone and her husband Jack; brother-in-law, Thomas Flack and brother-in-law, Sonny Burns.

Left to cherish Gail’s memory are her husband, William O. Burns; sister, Charlene Surber Flack of Charlotte, NC; and sister-in-law, Pat Burns of Fairlea; she was loved and will be remembered by her nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Burns will be Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Rev. Joe Geiger officiating with entombment following in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lewisburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 14, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
