Fairlea – Donald Wilson Brown, 80, passed away on Friday, Mar. 23, 2018, at home after a long illness.

Born May 9, 1937, in Renick, he was the son of the late Asa Wilson Brown and Lettie Rapp Brown.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dee McKnight Brown, their children, Audrey Ellen Brown Williams (Royce) of Nashville, TN, Anne McKnight Robinson (Max) of Renick, and Stuart Wilson Brown (Amy) of Lewisburg; and grandchildren, Justin, James and Lettie Williams, Hannah Mihok (Michael), Katie, Ben and Nathan Robinson, Nixon, Jeb, Grace and Asa Brown; and his sister, Mrs. Betty Huff (Richard) of Waynesboro, VA.

Mr. Brown was a graduate of Renick High School (Class of 1954), West Virginia University (Class of 1959), and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a member and Elder of Old Stone Presbyterian Church. He served as the WV State Fire Marshal, WV Insurance Commissioner, and State Director of the WV Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of the USDA.

Don was devoted to his family. He was deeply loved and respected; he will be greatly missed. Throughout his life and especially in his retirement, Don enjoyed working on the family farm and pursuing his quest for unique antiques. He never failed to bring home a chair that caught his eye.

The family is especially grateful for the loving care Don received from caregivers Sandy Alderman, Carol Holt, Dawn Farrell, the staff of Peyton Hospice House, and the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging.

Funeral service was held on Monday, Mar. 26, at Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, where Rev. Dr. Anna Straight officiated. Burial was in Morningside Cemetery, Renick.

Friends and family were received Sunday evening at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Don’s memory to Old Stone Presbyterian Church, 644 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901; Greenbrier Valley Theatre, P.O. Box 494, Lewisburg, WV 24901; or the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
