Lewisburg-Donald W. Hammond of Lewisburg, left behind the troubles of this world for the peace of eternity on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016.
Don was born on May 24, 1957, in Berea, KY.
In 1964, his family moved to Lewisburg, and he lived all the rest of his years in the Greenbrier Valley. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairlea. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1979, and he was a proud member of Hokie Nation. He also graduated from the Stonier School of Banking, and for many years he worked as a banker serving the needs of families and businesses in the area. In later years, he operated his own general contracting business, and many fine homes in the area stand as a testimony to his efforts.
Don loved his family dearly and was greatly loved in return. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Hammond in 2010, and his stepson, Jamie Honaker in 2000.
He is survived by his mother, Margie Hammond of Lewisburg; his stepdaughter, Amber Phillips of Lewisburg; his brother, Robert Hammond and wife Lorrie of Lewisburg; his brother, David Hammond and wife Jody of Charleston; and many other extended family members and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Dallas Smith officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
