Darrell “Stump” Madison Critchley

Darrell “Stump” Madison Critchley, 73, of Danese, passed away on July 4, 2025. He was the son of the late Ugal and Maggie Critchley.

He was born in Landisburg on April 1, 1952.

Darrell is preceded in death by brother Vernon “Bo” Critchley, and sister, Della “Sissy” Critchley.

Darrell enjoyed watching and reading westerns, listening to old country and bluegrass, and spending time with his family. Darrell especially loved his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They were the light of his life.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia “Jenny” Critchley; his five children: Sherry, Shelia, and Marty of Danese; Joe (Hannah), and Charlie (Staci) of Ansted; seven grandchildren: Katlyn (Hunter), Connor, Kylee, Hayden, Makenzie, Bella, and Leland; one great-grandchild, Jaxdyn Darrell; two brothers Joe (Debbie), and Jerry; and two sisters: Jean (Donnie) and Faye (Dan).

The family would like to thank Danese Volunteer Fire Dept., Jan Care, and Home Care Plus for everything they’ve done. Especially, Nurse Brittany for all of her help. Additionally, thank you to Dr. JaFary and staff for their care over the years.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace, Rainelle with Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Critchley Family Cemetery on Smokey Branch Road, Danese.

Visitation for friends will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.

In leiu of flowers, please make contributions to Burke & Herbert bank, Rainelle C/O Marty Critchley for Darrell Critchley.
