Adventures in Learning – Spring 2015

Shepherd Center of Greenbrier Valley will offer “Adventures in Learning – Spring 2015,” at Bascom United Methodist Church in Rupert on Tuesdays, Mar. 31 through May 5. Social time is at 8:30 a.m. and classes are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please join us as we have classes in Creative Writing/Storytelling, Bible Study, The WV Extension Office variety of topics, Line Dancing (Exercises), Mah Jongg and Chicken Scratch Dominos. There will be guest speakers each day at lunch hour. Registration is free; however, donations are welcome. Please call 304-645-4196 for more information.

AHMH’s Upcoming schedule

Tuesday Jam Sessions at the American Heritage Music Hall (AHMH) at Island Park, 315 Monroe Avenue, Ronceverte, have been moved to every Friday night – Apr. 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 – from 7 to 10/10:30 p.m. Doors open at 6, music starts at 7 p.m. Admission: Tuesdays $7 each; dance night $10 each. April’s dance will be held Apr. 25 and will feature High Country. The dance in May will be held May 23 and will feature Country Proud. Admission includes food, coffee and soft drinks brought in by the audience and donated to the music hall to share with everyone. (Bring your favorite snack to share.) (Note: AHMH DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY FOOD OR DRINKS). A family type atmosphere with no alcohol and no smoking, the Music Hall is handicap accessible, located at Island Park, Ronceverte. Spaghetti Luncheon

at Second Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church Fellowship Hall Saturday, Apr. 11, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the menu: spaghetti, salad, garlic toast, dessert and drink. Cost: adults $8, children 6 and under $4.

Annual Ramp Dinner

will be served at Leivasy Peoples Place, Inc., Rt. 20, Nicholas County, Saturday, Apr. 11. Serving begins at 12 noon and ends at 5 p.m. Adults $12, children under twelve $6, tiny ones free. Menu includes: fried ramps, fried potatoes, brown beans, ham, bacon, scrambled eggs, pickled eggs, corn bread, corn pone, dessert and drink (includes sassafras tea). 50/50 drawing. Hammer-In ‘A Gathering of Blacksmiths’

Alderson Quilting Retreat

The Alderson Quilters & Crafters of Greenbrier County, Alderson, are hosting their 4th Annual Quilting Retreat Apr. 30 – May 2, at the Alderson Community Center. There are a variety of classes for beginners to advanced. We are excited to have NQA Certified teacher, Fran Kordek, as our guest instructor. (www.SubtleEndeavors.com). Friday at 6 p.m., there will be a class medley showing eight different quilt ideas/techniques. In addition to a variety of classes, there are meals and an on-going charity project to sew. Deb Ann’s Fabrics of Hillsboro, vendor, will be joined on Saturday by Itchin 2 Be Stitchin of Beckley. The WV Quilters will hold their quarterly meeting at the retreat on Saturday, May 2 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be followed by Fran Kordek’s presentation on the WV Quilt Documentation Project. Habitat ‘how to’ clinics scheduled

Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity and longtime national partner Lowe’s are hosting “how-to” construction clinics for women volunteering during the eighth annual National Women Build Week. This year, the local National Women Build will be on Saturday, May 2. Local clinics will be held at Lowe’s of Lewisburg at 20 Gateway Boulevard on the following dates: “How to Safely Use Hand and Power Tools” – Apr. 11 at 9 a.m. and “How to Frame for Walls and Roofs” – Apr. 18 at 9 a.m. To sign up for the clinics, volunteers should contact Almost Heaven Habitat at 304-647-3342.

2015 Alleghany Highlands Triathlon

slated for April 25 will include a 5K Run, a 3 Mile Paddle on the Cowpasture River and a 13 mile bike ride. Triathlon Registration form on our website. Race begins 9 a.m. at Sharon Community Center and ends at the AH YMCA. Kayak Raffle – $5 per ticket. Retail Value $499. This year’s event will again be presented as the third in a Triple Crown series with the Greenbrier River Race and the Lexington Road and River Race for the fourth year.
