Billy Joe McGuire

Union-Billy Joe McGuire, 85, passed away suddenly Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, in The Villages Hospital, Lady Lake, FL.

He was born Aug. 4, 1929, in Gap Mills, the son of the late James Harland and Una Wylie McGuire.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Lawrence Malcolm and Basil; and five sisters, Ethelene, Ola, Nell, Rossie and Inez.

He was a member of the Gap Mills United Methodist Church, an Honorary Life Member of Kazim Shriners’ Temple, Roanoke, VA, a 50+ year member of the Monroe Masonic Lodge #77, Bene Kedim Shrine Temple of Charleston, Monroe and Greenbrier Valley Shrine Clubs, life member of American Legion Post 100 and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are: his wife of 59 years Ardith Estep McGuire; two sons, Joel (Shelby) and William Scott (Phoebe) McGuire; four grandchildren, Cony, Lauren, Amanda and Erica McGuire; two great-grandchildren, Ariel and Anthony Ellis; sister, Dreama (Freddie) Lyle of Boone, NC; and several loving nieces and nephews.

There will he a visitation on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte from 6 until 8 p.m.

Masonic graveside rites by the Monroe Masonic Lodge #77 will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Carmel Cemetery in Gap Mills with Pastor Harold Martin officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Monroe Shrine Club for Crippled Children’s Hospital.
