Renick-Barbara B. Walkup, 88, passed away Monday night, Mar. 11, 2019, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Walkup was born on Sept. 25, 1930, in Lewisburg, a daughter of David Austin and Allene Callison Burns.

Barbara was a homemaker. She loved bowling and had won many trophies at tournaments, and played until just a few years ago. Barbara will be remembered by many as an excellent basketball player on the girls’ team at Lewisburg High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John J. (John Joe) Walkup, Jr. on Mar. 17, 2012; and two sisters, Geraldine Renick and Jenette Whorell.

Mrs. Walkup is survived by three sons, Zivo Walkup (Mary Jane) of Lewisburg, John J. Walkup III (Haylee) and Terry Walkup (Nora), all of Renick; granddaughter, Gaylan Walkup of Colorado; two loving nieces, Gail Bartlett of Baltimore, MD, and Yvonne Lavender of Bolton Landing, NY; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog companion of many years, Red.

Private graveside services will be held at the Morningside Cemetery in Renick.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Greenbrier Humane Society. PO Box 926, Lewisburg, WV 24901. (greenbrierhumanesociety@frontier.com)
