Audrey Frances Williams Thompson

Alderson-Audrey Frances Williams Thompson, 82, a lifelong resident of Alderson, passed away on Monday, Mar. 24, 2014, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, surrounded by loving family members, following a short illness.

Born Oct. 23, 1931, in Alderson, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Agnes Mae Loomis Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Paul Thompson; brother, Jack L. Williams; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Strand Rogers.

Mrs. Thompson was a 1949 graduate of Alderson High School, Alderson, and was a retired counselor, having retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Alderson, after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, the Alderson Woman’s Club, where she served as treasurer for a number of years, the Almost Heaven Chapter of Retired Federal Employees, and volunteered with the Read Aloud Program at Alderson Elementary School. Mrs. Thompson was an expert seamstress, cook and homemaker. Her most cherished pastime in retirement was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: five children, Steven B. Rogers of Alderson, Debbie Rogers Yoder and husband Tom of Fairlawn, OH, Jeffrey W. Rogers and Sue Wise of Beckley, Anthony J. Thompson and wife Catherine of Lewisburg and Dr. Paul B. Thompson and Evan Chodos of New York City, NY; two brothers, Harold Williams and wife Liz of Sarasota, FL and Samuel Williams and wife Faye of Rupert; sister, Lillian Williams Burns of Perrysburg, OH; sister-in-law, Toni L. Williams of Alderson; 15 grandchildren, Darby Rogers, Corey Rogers and wife Tamara, Ashley Rogers Miller and husband Travis Jeb Rogers, Maeven Rogers, Rhys Rogers, Colin Rogers, Joshua Rogers, Esq. and wife Dr. Becky Rogers, Dr. Jane Rogers, Dr. Jillian Rogers, Jo Ellen Rogers, Jamie McLaughlin and wife Seah, Kelly McLaughlin, Dr. Corey Maggiana and wife Dr. Isabel Maggiano and Jonathan Maggiano and wife Emily; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Mar. 29, at 11 a.m. at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with Pastor Rick Duncan officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson.

Friends may call Friday, Mar. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

For those considering an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Mrs. Thompson’s memory to the Alderson Elementary School’s Snacks in Packs program, Alderson Elementary School, RR 1 Box 162F, Alderson, WV 24910, where her children and many of her grandchildren attended.
