Jean Ann Hoke Ballengee

Alderson-Jean Ann Hoke Ballengee, 86, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, at her home in Alderson, surrounded by her family, following a short illness.

Born Feb. 9, 1936, at Creamery, WV, she was the daughter of the late William Harold and Alice Opal Ellis Hoke.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Ballengee; sister, Patricia Hill; and granddaughter, Aimee Elizabeth Ballengee.

Mrs. Ballengee was a homemaker. She was a 1954 graduate of Greenville High School, Greenville, WV, and completed the secretarial course and graduated from West Virginia Business College in 1955. She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church at Creamery and attended Tempa Church at Tempa, WV. Mrs. Ballengee enjoyed attending the Alderson Senior Center. She loved flower gardening and taking pictures of her flowers, vegetable gardening, canning, quilting, basket making and a variety of arts and crafts. She also enjoyed working jig saw puzzles and loved listening to music.

Survivors include daughter, Pamela Jean Ballengee Cayton and husband Jim of Washington, WV; two sons, Timothy Ray Ballengee and wife Beverly of Alderson, and Jason Harold Ballengee and wife Kelly of Shady Spring; sister, Haroldine Ward of Wayside; two brothers, Lyndon Hoke and wife Alma of Creamery, and David Hoke of Pence Springs; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and some very special neighbors.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson, where Pastor Jim Wentz and Pastor Bobby Reed officiated. Burial followed in the Campground Cemetery at Creamery.

Friends called Monday evening, Nov. 28, at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.

Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

For those wishing to show an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Ballengee to Kanawha HospiceCare, Inc., 223 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
